South Stream - Южный Поток

-
Vladimir Putin won Bulgaria’s support for the South Stream gas pipeline project on Friday, in what is expected to be his last trip abroad as Russia’s president.

Estimated at €10bn ($14.6bn) and with an annual capacity of 30bn cubic metres of gas, the project – a joint venture between Russia’s Gazprom and Italian energy company Eni – in effect makes Bulgaria a gateway for Russian natural gas deliveries to southern Europe and beyond.

SOFIA (Thomson Financial) - Bulgaria and Russia have agreed a deal, set to be signed later today, for the construction of the South Stream pipeline project to carry Russian gas to Europe, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev said.

'The government approved Friday the project for an agreement with Russia on building the South Stream pipeline and authorised Economy and Energy Minister Petar Dimitrov to sign' the deal, Stanishev told a special news conference. 'The negotiations ended successfully for both parties. Bulgaria's interests have been protected,' Stanishev said.
